My family and I just returned from a much needed trip away. Although it took us 8 hours to get there and ran into lots of problems before and along the way (tie rod replacement, sick child, our insurance company taking our monthly payment and then cancelling us anyway and lots of rain) it was so amazing once we actually made it!
I love Michigan because it feels like time has just held still there. Where my parents live, up north, near lake Huron, there are lots of little tourists spots, cabins to rent, fishing and bait shops, canoe rentals and such. Most of these places are either for sale or closed or just waiting for the season to pick up. The economy up there has kind of declined over the years. It kind of feels like a half funcioning beachy ghost town, if that makes any sense at all haha.
Second day Mom took us to walk at the Tawas harbor and see the little tourist shops. Jamie had the best chocolate covered cherry of his life, which was dipped in carmel first and then chocolate. We went back to the house and had hotdogs before my Mom's sister and parents came over. We all sat around the fire pit for a couple of hours talking.
Third day we went to the lumberman's monument! MY FAV! Sand dunes there are so pretty. We walked the beach and had steaks for dinner, kind of a low key day. That was pretty much the jist of it. I loved hanging out with Mom and Dad and other relatives and just being away. I know the girls had lots of fun too.
